​​​With current handsets, it is impossible to know if a unit has fallen out of bed, out of reach of the patient. The goal is to add sensor (accelerometer, gyroscope) into the handset and develop an drop detection algorithm to detect the fall of the device and warn the nurse. In addition, data for predictive maintenance can be gathered. In this thesis you will develop the drivers to read out over SPI/IC the sensor from an embedded microcontroller. Next you well develop an algorithm to detect a drop and send an alarm. The solutions needs to be validated in terms of accuracy and false positives​
